Literary reading on the occasion of the 35th jubilee of the Künstlerhaus Lauenburg
October 13, 2021, 7 p.m.
The former literary fellow of the Künstlerhaus Lauenburg reads from his debut novel “Kein Held,” 2020.
In “Kein Held,” Valentin Moritz, a 2017 Künstlerhaus Lauenburg literary fellow, goes in search of clues. On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the grandfather asks the grandson to help him write down his memories. The conversations with the grandfather lead the author to his own roots in South Baden in the late 80s, early 90s. The grandfather tells of his life as a farmer, of fascism and the war, the author remembers a childhood and youth marked by village life with all its facets and also its narrowness, which he then escapes as a young person. The result is an impressively moving generational story that raises the question of belonging, identity and homeland, but also offers a mirror of the great story in private life, a committed testimony against war and fascism and for remembering.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the Künstlerhaus is hosting a diverse program of music, literature, and visual arts with the participation of former fellows, a connection that the house has always cultivated.
